“I love quiet. I like loud too. I love laying in fields and watching the tall blades swing and crane over me. I laugh a lot, at least when I’m doing ok. I write poetry. I love family dinners and the neighborhood walks that happen after. I like laying on the carpet in the living room and listening to the old records my dad collects. I like coffee strong as gasoline by the fire at night. I love all the ways one could think to tell a story. I want to breathe them in. The meals that come from ancient recipes and the mess that ingredients make, the songs and sounds, the books, the spun yarn to the knitted sweaters, the clumps of paint stuck to the floor of my moms basement studio… the things that inspire us, that make us come alive, that brim with meaning, the things that draw us to see the good given to us and that give us courage to face this mean mad muddled world with the hope that something better is coming. Sometimes I take a photo of moments like these. It’s like lightning bugs in a jar.”
